RC # 4 De Essaouira, directo a San Antonio

It's been a hectic month since I came back from Morocco and Europe...The Petronio Alvarez festival was gonna start and, as I was in Bordeaux, I could not get over with the idea that I was just gonna be a spectator, and not an actor, of this fantastic event.
So I made a few phone calls, and Juan Esteban and the guys at Chonta agreed to help me organize an after-party for the festival. I had met the Juan David of La Revuelta last year, as they had soundchecked right before the band I was playing in. This is one of the very good bands here in Colombia. Urban style Aguabajos and Currulaos, mixed with funk and hip hop, honour the culture of the Pacific coast with great songs like "A coger cangrejo" or traditional melodies such as "San Gabriel" (of which Grupo Buscaja from Buenaventura had already made a great, almost reggae-like, version)... Unfortunately, La Revuelta didn't win the Petronio this year, but this is the kind of band that doesn't need it. The party just proved it !
Tune in on their myspace page or wait for some mp3 material here !

I was very happy to have them at this new RC, quite a success. Lucas Silva, Cedric, William came by to get a bite of their groove, and I saw them dance like apes as I was playing this 1970s afrofunk bomb tune by André et les Volcans...
The funniest thing happenend when Llevano and Juana showed up. I had spent the first week of january 2006 with them and a bunch of other crazy ass students from Bogota, on the caribean coast, somewhere near the Guajira, sleeping on the beach between a cristal clear river and the waves of the caribean, eating fish and not taking showers for days, with a scenic vew on the Sierra Santa Martha icy peaks, 6kms that seem a stone's throw. What a surprise to seem them more than 2 years later...

A Bientôt!
